The Six Star Medal is a prestigious award given to runners who successfully complete all six of the Abbott World Marathon Majors: Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York.
Diane Davidson is a Jog Leader with Jed Joggers in Jedburgh, and recently completed the phenomenal feat alongside some friends.
Diane joined jogscotland in 2012 when the local running club introduced the jogscotland group and put on a Couch to 5k programme.
Diane’s love of running spiralled from there, from completing that first 5k to moving on to 10k, half marathon, marathon and even ultras.
Looking to give something back, she became a Jog Leader in 2019, just before the pandemic struck.
Diane’s friends, Megan Darling and Liz Sloan, had previously run the London marathon and had seen someone with the six star medal. After a little bit of googling and a few drinks, the crew were hooked and the goal was set – they could do it too!
Diane was lucky to be accepted in the London ballot on her first attempt in 2021. They also all did Berlin together in 2021 and New York in 2022.
They were all booked to complete Chicago in 2023 but unfortunately Diane’s appendix ruptured the week before the race, and she wasn’t able to join them on the start line.
Having recovered from her surgery, they all booked to complete Tokyo in 2024 as well as re-doing Chicago later the same year.
There was just one final marathon to complete – Boston. Booked in for April 2025, the friends completed their challenge in the same way they had come up with it – together.
Speaking about her journey and the challenge, Diane said:
“We completed the journey together and it’s been an amazing experience. Six stars and the biggest medal ever!”
