The Jog Leader Conference is back for 2021 – and this time, it’s online!

We’ve decided to take advantage of online platforms to make our conference easily-accessible to jog leaders all over the country this year, and it will run in a series of four sessions across the week of 4 October.

Each hour-long session will start at 7pm, with recordings available afterwards to watch in your own time, if you’re not able to make a session. The cost for the full week, including access to recordings, and a goody bag, is £10.

There’ll be plenty of time to chat with your fellow jog leaders and staff from jogscotland and SAMH, along with talks on a whole range of useful and interesting topics:

Mon 4 OctWelcome, jogscotland & SAMH updates, with jog leader breakout room discussions

A chance to hear from the jogscotland and SAMH teams on where we are now, and our latest plans going forward. Head of Development David Fallon and jogscotland Development Officer Jo Stevens, will talk about their work on a new jogscotland Strategy;  SAMH Sport & Physical Activity Manager, Nina Allinson, will talk about the Feel Your Personal Best and #TrySomethingNew campaigns, and their work with sportscotland. We’ll take a look at the lessons we’ve all learned from the past 18 months, and there’ll be the chance for you to chat with other jog leaders and share expertise and experiences in our breakout chat sessions.

Tue 5 Oct – Keynote – Steph Davis, Olympic Marathon Runner – interview and Q&A

Until 2018, Steph Davis had never run a marathon and classed herself as a fair weather runner. And yet, at this year’s Tokyo Olympics, she represented Team GB in the marathon, after a superb run at the qualifying event in Kew Gardens.

Sue Gyford of jogscotland will interview Steph to find out more about her career – and the last three years in particular – before we throw it open to the floor for you to ask your own questions. A superb opportunity to hear from one of Scotland’s top marathon runners in Olympic year!

Read more about Steph on the Olympics.com website

Wed 6 October – Dr Daryl Cowan on creating a motivational climate at your jogscotland group

Daryl is helping jogscotland to create a new optional, additional training module for jog leaders who want to develop their leadership skills, motivate their joggers, and create a really inspiring group that people want to jog with.

He will tell us about the results of research he carried out with jogscotland jog leaders to find out what extra support would help them most. Daryl is Lecturer & Post-Graduate Research Coordinator for the Division of Sport and Exercise at the University of the West of Scotland.

Thu 7 OctoberPelvic Floor, Core and Restore – Elspeth Alexandra

We all have pelvic floors (not only women!) and knowing how to care for this part of the body pays dividends for everyone – and particularly for runners.

Elspeth is a fitness and health coach with a particular expertise in pelvic floor and core health. She will explain what your pelvic floor is, why it’s so important, and how to keep it fit and healthy.
